Sammy always said, a song had a destiny and would always find its way to the right artist. Steve Tyrell is that artist today.

Most of these songs are very associated with the singers who introduced them, and made them the standards they are, so to tackle them requires someone musically very confident.  Steve has done that and has left his own personal stamp on each of Sammy's songs. In particular, I always thought of Its Magic introduced by the great Doris Day as a "girl" song but when I listen to Steve I hear a tender, romantic "boy" song − the kind of  "boy" every "girl" wants to know…

CAHN-gratulations Steve, and thank you − Tita Cahn

Sammy Cahn was part of my life from as far back as I can remember, (maybe since I was three or four years old) and the truth is I never thought of him as sexy, but after listening to Steve's new album, I have changed my mind.

Maybe it's because most of the recordings I have heard of Sammy's lyric were my dad's and one doesn't usually equate one's dad with sexy; or maybe it's because I love Doris Day's recordings of Sammy's songs. I mean she turns me on musically, but that's about it, right?

Steve's voice singing these songs made me realize that my Uncle Sammy was one sexy dude.

Cuddle up close to the one you love and listen to Steve sing Sammy and see if you don't agree with me. It's Magic!

I love It's Magic…The Songs of Sammy Cahn, for many reasons and the top two are Steve Tyrell and Sammy Cahn.

The world knows the talents of Sammy Cahn the lyricist but I knew him as Uncle Sammy. He and my dad, Dean Martin were very close friends – they loved each other and our families were regular guests at each other’s homes.

Sammy Cahn, the wordsmith was the top of the heap. To this day I laugh when I hear the clever parodies he wrote for my father, like: “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, men have named you. I knew you when your name was Esther Schwartz!”

Steve’s album is fabulous; he brings a fresh spin to these classics… I can feel the love and respect he has for each song…

I know you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Uncle Sammy would be thrilled with Steve and his new album.

Love,

Deana Martin
